XMS is seeking a Software Packaging and Deployment Engineer expert with extensive hands-on experience in packaging, testing, and delivering baseline and non-baseline software to both classified and unclassified government networks.  The software will be used on Standard Operating Environment (SOE) devices and made available via typical Microsoft deployment platforms such as MECM, Intune, and Azure Arc. The software packaging engineer is responsible for ensuring the interoperability of applications on supported Windows 10 and 11 endpoints and Windows Server platforms.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating and maintaining automated application deployment packages. 
  • Manage the workflow for packaging requests of baseline and non-baseline applications deployed on the SOE platforms on the unclassified and classified networks. This duty      involves close coordination with application owners to build, test, perform user acceptance, and publish the package.     
  • Perform Application Packaging Scripting in support of department Standards to ensure installed software meets specified guidance and customized installation requirements.   
  • Perform Operating System Deployment (OSD) engineering for Windows 10 and 11 platforms.  These duties include Windows Imaging (WIM) creation, task sequence creation, testing, and publishing.  
  • Perform lifecycle application support related for security updates. This duty involves packaging, publishing, performing User Acceptance Testing, and providing Tier 3 software support.  
  • Responsibilities include supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT), troubleshooting deployment issues, creating deployment scripts, and maintaining an application catalog.
  • Learn and master new software platforms and frameworks
  • Create, review, and modify detailed architecture, standards, design documentation

Required Education & Experience 

  • Experience working in classified and/or unclassified government environments with greater than 10,000 endpoints.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in creating silent installations for software titles such as Adobe, AutoCAD and Microsoft products.
  • 3-5 years of experience with Microsoft software deployment platforms such as SCCM, MECM, Intune, Azure Arc.
  • 3-5 years of experience with Microsoft Operating System Deployment (OSD) to include Task Sequences and WIMs.
  • 1-3 years of experience packaging applications for Windows 10 and 11 platforms.
  • Experience with scripting to include PowerShell and VBScript.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows Servers, DNS, networking fundamentals, network security zones, and tiered security models
  • Ability to troubleshoot event logs, errors codes, and typical configuration issues with Windows based software
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including proven experience effectively communicating technical challenges and solutions to peers, customers and senior management

  • Microsoft MSCE certification (Desired)
  • Alternative scripting/programming skills (PowerShell, C#, VBScript)
  • Experience working in Microsoft cloud (Entra/Azure)
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications (Desired)
  • Experience working in Microsoft cloud (Entra/Azure)
  • Working knowledge of foundational security principles related to identity including PKI, cryptography, RBAC, zero trust, PAM
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
